The Unknown Cashier Follow Up

April 20th, 2019

WOW. What a long time to be away. Just wrote to another cashier blog who hasn't posted in a while. Started out as a comment but then I went a little further. I thought I would add it here, because it sounded good to me. Maybe I'll add more but I think for now this'll do.

I don't know if you're still cashiering, but I'm not any more. I retired when it became the better thing, for me, to do. (I'm The Unknown Cashier)

I rather liked my first boss. Great deal of respect for her. She was a Jekyll and Hyde character. The nice part that she changed personalities slowly. The replacement was Jekyll rarely and mostly Hyde. When she became Hyde she was very fast about it and very sudden and you never knew who you were working for at any given time.

SO when they changed the store to a different, (cheaper everything), kind of grocery store a LOT got worse.

After Head Cashier was in charge her personality became very bitter. She just wanted to change me into a member of the miserable b***h club. It didn't work but I sure as hell had to fight hard to enjoy myself at work. Luckily the customers were mostly the same ones.

I had been diagnosed with a brain 'lesion' of some sort. I was going through all kinds of tests and crap and it made work important in that it helped me keep my sanity. UNTIL I confronted her on something about the schedule. I took photos of the schedule each week so I could see it when I needed it. It was more accurate than writing it down on a scrap of paper. Also less chance of mistakes. Here's the confrontation lead up.

I showed up for work in the afternoon and was told I was supposed to be at work in the morning. I LOST the shift. They even had tried to call me. (Really!? There wasn't a message on my machine.) I had already punched in and the time clock allowed me to.

She said "Why did you punch in?"
'Because its the beginning of my shift.'
"You were supposed to be here at 9:00. I had to call someone else in!😠

The final straw was that even though owned by the same company, they were able to get rid of seniority, status, position, wage levels. We could choose to stay but you were considered a new employee and there was no guarantee you'd even get the same job.

I TOOK my pension and left. Funny, I still miss dealing with people but the 'new' head cashier has a turnover of employees like you wouldn't believe!!!! More young people who don't think anything is wrong with taking a day off last minute or even worse just not showing up.
